Singer, songwriter, director, screenplay writer. Australia’s Aminah Hughes is a well-versed jack of all trades, and she touches the most vulnerable parts of the soul with her heartfelt stories.
This year the multi-talented artist was nominated for an Independent Music Award in the Blues category for her song “Tell Me It’s Over.” The track is featured on Hughes’ debut album Blue Wooden Boat, a vulnerable, emotionally-charged collection that was recorded between the United States, Ireland, Australia and Germany and boasts a variety of musical guests including Tommy Emmanuel, Waterboys fiddler Steve Wickham, Nashville gospel singers The McCrary Sisters and GRAMMY award winner Tim Carter.
Musical Notes Global caught up with Hughes in Central Park following the Independent Music Awards, which were held at the Symphony Space Performing Arts Center in New York City on June 22. Watch as she talks about the show, her inspiration, Blue Wooden Boat, and more in the full interview below.
