5 Reasons Why We Love Maluma

Maluma, Colombia's 21-year-old sensation, is quickly becoming a household name. With over 6 million followers on Instagram, almost 16 million likes on Facebook, and a Latin Grammy nomination this year for Best Urban Performance ("El Tiki"), he is a superstar in South America and now increasingly so in the United States. It's been about two weeks since the release of his new album Pretty Boy Dirty Boy (October 30), his second in studio, which debuted at No. 1 on iTunes in Latin America and also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart. The album is Maluma's first to be physically released in the United States and has already sold more than 3,000 copies, with the current single "Borro Cassette" leading Billboard's Latin Airplay chart at No. 1 as well.

Needless to say, we love Maluma. For all of our "Malumaniaticas" out there, here's a list of 5 reasons why we love him. Let us know your reasons in the comments below!

1. He knows how to remix a song

We love Maluma's remixes. One of our favorites is the "Ella Es Mi Fiesta" remix alongside fellow Colombian Carlos Vives. See it featured on March's list of our Top 5 Latin Songs of the Moment.

We also can't get enough of his remix of "Algo Brilla En Mí" by Natalia Jiménez, where he lays down perfect touches of reggaeton on the Latin pop song. See it featured on July's list of our Top 5 Latin Songs of the Moment.

2. He's an amazing coach on Colombia's edition of La Voz Kids

Maluma was the winning coach of the kids talent show last season, and he is currently coaching his second season of the show, whose contestants range in age from 7 to 15 years old.

3. His new album shows us a new side of his artistic personality

While his well-loved, edgy "Dirty Boy" side is flawless on tracks such as "Borro Cassette" and "Recuérdame," we can't help but love this new romantic "Pretty Boy" side even more, which shines on the duet "Tengo Un Amor" (featuring bachatera Leslie Grace) and on "Vuelo Hacia el Olvido."

4. His performance in tribute to Celia Cruz at the first ever Latin AMAs was on point

With musical influences like Hector Lavoe, it's no wonder that Maluma was asked to take part in the musical tribute to the legendary Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz, which coincided with the premiere of Telemundo's mini series inspired by Cruz's life. He performed "La Negra Tiene Tumbao," putting his fiery urban spin on the incredibly addictive song (performance starts at 1:24 in the below video). Oh, and by the way: We want to see more salsa from you, Maluma!

5. His style is impeccable

Let's face it, Maluma is a trendsetter. He put that spot-on fashion sense to good use for his newly launched clothing line Maluma by Amelissa, available in Colombia.
