Canadian-Argentine singer and songwriter Sebastian Javier is an artist on the rise and is well on his way to becoming a true Latin pop sensation.

Named by Twitter as one of the “Top 10 Most Influential Teens in Canada” for the past three years, finding himself alongside international stars like Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber, Javier started his career as a content creator on YouTube as That Spanish Boy before jumping into music full throttle in 2016 with his debut single “Nobody But Us.”

Three years after making his debut, the 19-year-old artist continues to grow and shine, captivating the hearts of listeners and viewers around the world with his bilingual appeal and affection for his loyal fan base.

Javier recently released his new single “Manicomio.” Created with award-winning songwriters Fito Blanko (Daddy Yankee, Elvis Crespo, Pitbull) and Jenson Vaughan (Britney Spears, Madonna, Ellie Goulding), and produced by Grammy-nominated hitmaker Sensei Musica, the track is a gigantic R&B-flavored, Spanish-language Latin pop anthem that ushers in the refreshing feel-good vibes of summer.

The young star sat down with Musical Notes Global to talk all about “Manicomio,” what he’s got coming up, and more. Check out the full interview below!

We're totally loving your new single "Manicomio"! Can you tell us a little about the story behind the song?

Sebastian Javier: This song represents a chase. It is all about going after something you love! In this song, I’m chasing a girl. She can’t make up her mind about being with me or not & it drives me nuts! But she’s a fight that’s worth chasing after & fighting for.

What does "Manicomio" represent for you?

SJ: It represents a chase of a dream of mine, which is to be a singer. Since I was a little kid, I got bullied for doing what I love but I never gave up on chasing my dream. It has always been a dream of mine to become a singer. This song to me represents the struggles of chasing something that you love but the amazing feeling it gives you when you start to achieve them.

What was it like working with such established, amazing songwriters and producers, like Fito Blanko and Sensei Musica?

SJ: It was absolutely incredible! They know the Latin music scene really well so it was so cool getting to learn so many new things! Many legendary writers, Jenson Vaughan, Bhavik Pattani, Ruthy Raba were a part of this project which made this even cooler!

Did you learn anything new while working on this track?

SJ: I learned a lot more about being able to tell a story with more clarity. Singing is storytelling, & if you tell the story right then you get a successful song! I have learned the process of it with so much more clarity & I am so excited to learn more!

What is it like being known as one of Twitter's "Top 10 Most Influential Teens in Canada"? How has it affected your life?

SJ: It is absolutely incredible! It has totally put some pressure on me to make sure I set a good example to others but it has truly been a dream of mine to influence others in a positive way. Being able to achieve something like that really made me realize the power that Social Media & music can have with others & it only made me more excited for what’s to come!

We also admire how you addressed mental health issues in your single "Not Alone." What inspired you to tackle such a huge and important subject?

SJ: The people that support my music have had an amazing impact on the song. They inspired me to write it. They always speak to me about their struggles & ask for advice & I thought to myself.. “why not write a song about it so I can help those who are afraid to speak up?”

What is something your fans should know about you but probably don't?

SJ: They should know I absolutely LOVE them! I hope they know that. I want them to know that without them, I would have never achieved anything that I’ve done to this point! I always want them to know that so many more things are coming. This is just the beginning.

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

SJ: I am looking forward to doing my headlining #ElComienzoTour in South America & I am also super excited to be releasing English music and have a new Spanish song coming in May! Many more things are coming that I can’t talk about yet but stay on the lookout! This is just the beginning.
