Get to Know Me: LonelyTwin

LonelyTwin (aka Madelene Eliasson) isn’t new to music, and it shows.

Although she just released her incredible debut album “This End Had No Beginning” via Ultra Records, the Stockholm-based singer, songwriter, and producer brings a wealth of experience into her solo project, having previously worked with LÉON, BROODS, Anna Of The North, and Winona Oak.

With each track crafted by Eliasson alone in the studio, “This End Had No Beginning” hits listeners right in the feels, diving deep into the emotions that carry us through two of the most intense experiences we can ever experience as humans: love and heartbreak. Powerful sentiments of longing and a wistful sense of nostalgia can be found in abundance, while elements of trip-hop, indie pop, and electronic folk create a highly engaging and immersive experience.

LonelyTwin sat down with Musical Notes Global to talk all about her new album and music video. Get to know her below.

For those of you who may not know me, I’m Madde (LonelyTwin). I’m from Stockholm, Sweden, I have a dog named Disco and I make music, produce and write. Mostly about girls but sometimes about other stuff too!

This is why I call myself LonelyTwin: I wanted a name that wasn’t my own and I wanted something that provoked a feeling on it’s own. I’m a Gemini, so that’s where the twin thing comes from, but I’m not super into astrology. So I just came up with it and thought it sounded cool and beautiful.

Here’s the scoop on my debut album “This End Had No Beginning”: It’s definitely an insight to two very chaotic years for me. Me and my ex broke up and then she started dating one of my best friends... and pretty soon I also met someone new, but that turned into a very messy situation as well. One of the reasons being that she lived in America and the pandemic happened. So all my emotions regarding this you can find on the album!

To me, this album represents the transition from an end into something new. It took a while but I’m in such a better place now and I’m so grateful I have the album to represent this time for me. I’m also grateful that I had the outlet cause I definitely needed it!

I hope listeners can resonate with the music and find some comfort in it if they’re going through something similar. That’s all I want always with my music.

“More Than On My Mind” is about the girl I met in America. Everything was so messy with us from the start and she never really wanted to give it an honest shot. I found myself being so hung up on it after we had stopped talking so I wrote the song about getting a second chance. I think most people get stuck on that thought after a breakup. ‘’Maybe if we just try one more time etc”. It can be hard to let go of.

This is how the music video was born: Marni Weiss who I work really close with at Ultra knew about these directors C&J (CJ Erasme and Jarrett Lampley) and I loved their ideas and vision right away. So we made the video together and I loved working with them and everyone involved so much!

My favorite song on the album is “Thinking Of A Place” because it means so much to me. All the songs do but that one feels really special. Idk, it changes all the time though I have to say, I’m very happy with all the songs!

It was inspired by the girl I had been seeing in America. I had just gotten home because of the pandemic and I felt really heartbroken. I didn’t know when I was gonna see her again and I didn’t want her to forget about me. I just wanted to write a nice song for her so I wrote it and sent it to her.

When writing music, I draw my greatest inspiration from other music that I’m loving at the time mostly. Or whatever new sounds I can find and draw inspiration from.

The artists who have most influenced my work on “This End Had No Beginning” are: I feel like it’s hard to name like that cause they’re are so many. My music is influenced by all the different artists and genres I’ve listened to my whole life. But if I would name a couple it would probably be Japanese House, Shura, Bombay Bicycle Club.

I really admire Rosalia right now. Her new album is sooo good and her artistry really shines through in everything. Plus she’s so insanely talented!

A few songs on my playlist right now are: “Idea of Her”-Cavetown, “G3 N15”-Rosalia, “Dirty Dancer”-Orion Sun

For the rest of 2022, I’m looking forward to working on new music!! I’m so excited to fully get into the next album.
