[VIDEO] Angela Turone + Chris Platt Talk Vibrant Debut Album Sounds of Brazil

Today we venture into the world of Brazilian music with an amazing debut from a perfect pair.

Based in Toronto, vocalist/pianist Angela Turone and guitarist Chris Platt have been making music together since 2014, and following their love for the sounds of Brazil, this year finally released their debut album of the same name.

With Sounds of Brazil, Turone and Platt refresh some of the country’s most iconic, best-loved classics, showcasing their appreciation for their renowned composers and lyricists, such as bossa nova composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, while adding their own spin with new arrangements. Layers and layers of colorful sonic textures, scintillating instrumentation, and Turone’s rich, flawless vocals combine to form a mesmerizing compilation that serves as a wonderful introduction to a catalog that we don’t take the time to recognize enough here in the U.S.

However, the two musicians also pay tribute to the musical culture of the States with the Great American Songbook, seamlessly weaving in two gorgeous pieces, including the Rogers and Hart masterpiece “Bewitched,” reinterpreted to fit the album’s theme.

Turone and Platt sat down to talk all about Sounds of Brazil with Musical Notes Global. Discover their thoughts below.
