Arran Sym has been making waves for years, producing hits for artists all over the world and garnering praise from major taste makers.

A multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Sym recently released his atmospheric debut EP 1000 Micrograms of Love. Diving into the artist’s personal experiences and the tumultuous track of 2020, the six-song collection is a manifestation of light and dark, juxtaposing the two poles by revealing his experiences over the past year, from falling in love to the worldwide crisis that has redefined the lives of billions of people. Alternative, hip-hop, and lofi pop styles help shape these stories into a psychedelic and immersive journey that will provide listeners with an escape while resonating on a deeply emotional level.

Sym sat down with Musial Notes Global to discuss his thoughts on 1000 Micrograms of Love. Check out the track by track breakdown below.

1. “Dosed”
The first song I actually made. I was inspired by The Beatles’ harmonies. I wanted to create an atmospheric and captivating introduction to the EP and the harmonies really captured the feeling I was going for. The lyrics are about finding love and my journey with my girlfriend.

2. “Run With Me”
This was first song I ever released as a single. A bit darker and more energetic than any of the other songs on the EP.

3. “Coming Up”
Bit of a groovy song. About meeting someone and coming up together.

4. “Moving on”
The song actually changed very much from the original version. I had the hook, which I thought was very strong, so I decided to build the song around that and make it into a more traditional pop song. Got my friend and collaborator Kevin Sinatra to help me with backing vocals.

5. “Part II”
This song was part of another song that was called "Fall,” but I ended up just using the second half for this song. Got quite an uplifting and motivating feel. It features Chicago rapper Ibn Inglor, an artist I've worked with for the past 5 years. We ended up using a verse he recorded when we were in Australia in 2018. It just fit perfectly for this track.

6. “Someone”
This song I made from start to finish the day I had to upload my EP. I knew I had to have it uploaded by this day and felt I didn't have a good outro. So when I woke up that morning I just said "right I need a closing song" and made it. Super happy with it - I think it's a perfect way to end the project.
