[INTERVIEW] Liza Jane Talks Debut EP "Unbreakable"

Award-winning singer-songwriter Liza Jane discovered her love for music at just two years old, and ever since then has been pursuing her dream of building her own career in the industry.

Having shared the stage with legendary figures, such as Grammy Award-winner James Slater (Chris Isaak, Emmylou Harris) and Phil Brown (lead guitarist of Little Feat), and served as the opening act for Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad and The Doobie Brothers, earlier this spring, the Florida-born artist released her debut EP “Unbreakable.” An electro-pop fueled project that takes listeners on a journey from heartbreak to healing, the EP serves as a powerful reminder that no matter how bad we’re feeling, or how much we’re struggling to get through the day, we can summon the strength within ourselves to overcome the toughest obstacles and not only survive but thrive once we come out on the other side.

Liza Jane sat down to reveal more details about her debut project with Musical Notes Global. Check out the interview below.

Musical Notes Global: How does it feel to release your debut EP "Unbreakable"?

Liza Jane: I can't even begin to describe it. We've all been faced with delays over the past couple of years and this project is no exception. I am so incredibly excited to finally be able to share songs that have been at least a year in the making. There are 6 songs on the EP and there will be a steady flow of new music to come after its release this week.

MNG: What does the project represent for you?

LJ: This project represents triumph on many different levels. From experiencing and overcoming the pain and heartache you will hear in some songs, to persevering, letting go, and finding the strength you will hear in other songs. This EP means everything to me. It means showing the world who I am and what my music is about. I want to entertain but also move and inspire people through my music.

MNG: What do you hope listeners take away after listening?

LJ: I want them to take away the fact that they are not alone and can overcome any obstacle or battle thrown their way. That even though life is hard, nothing stays the same and it WILL get better. When we learn not to take life too seriously, that we can control how we react to situations, we can often find happiness.

MNG: Do you have a favorite track? Why does that song mean so much to you?

LJ: I love the song “Unbreakable” because I wrote it as an anthem to inspire women to keep going; that they are strong no matter what. When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, the song took on a whole new meaning for me and I started dedicating it to her. She is a fighter. She is a warrior. She is Unbreakable. One of my other favorites is my song ‘Numb to it All’ because it is very personal to me on how I used to feel and I think my fans will be able to relate to that darkness. But, there are messages of hope that are woven throughout the EP to remind fans that there is always a way out of the dark.

MNG: How do you think the EP shows the world who you are?

LJ: Hopefully, the "Unbreakable" EP shows the world that I want to help others heal thru music. I like to combine my classical voice training with sultry elements to create this musical style that is dark pop, pop alternative, even pop dance. I'm still the 2-year-old that told my parents I came here to sing. The same person that would dance and sing to Cher videos, The Pussycat Dolls, and Celine Dion or blast The Phantom of The Opera on repeat is here to try to bring light and levity into what can often feel like a dark world.

MNG: What are you looking forward to next?

LJ: After this EP, I'm most looking forward to hitting the road on tour, joining festival lineups around the world, and consistently releasing new music for my fans. There are a number of songs I have written in the past few months that I would love to get into the studio to record, as well as several songs that didn't make the EP, but will most certainly be released this year.
