Rising French band Saults is cooking up an exciting brand of pop that will leave its listeners smiling from ear to ear.

Comprising brothers Antoine (vocals) and Greg Saults (drums), with Axel Castets (bass), the trio released their self-titled debut EP to positive reception in 2016. Following the release, they made their official live debut in Paris in front of an audience of 10,000 people before moving to London to record new tracks at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

Saults spent this past summer recording their upcoming sophomore EP Leave Me Then and followed up the recording with shows across London and France in September. As they prepare to release their new project, they sat down with Musical Notes Global to talk some behind the scenes facts about the making of the title track. Discover the details below.

1. I wrote the song just after a meeting with our manager Matt Gooderham. He loved our single “Kelly Ride”, but wasn’t convinced by the other demos that I sent him. We had lunch together and he told me “Love you guys and you are clearly excellent musicians but currently, you just don’t have the songs, and until you have them, we can’t work together.” I have be honest, it cut me to the core but he was right. When I came home, I wrote “Leave Me Then”.

2. Writing the music took me about 10 minutes. For the lyrics, I was arguing with my girlfriend, and I decided to leave the house, to get some air. That’s when I wrote the lyrics. The song is about the fact that when the love is gone but you still want to know if there’s any possible second way before you leave for good.

3. At the first rehearsal of “Leave Me Then” with the band, I was really scared that the boys would not be convinced by the song, because I had such high hopes about it. I told them that it was track was from a London disco band and I wanted to give it a try for the next show. At the end, Axel winked at me, telling me “Come on man. We’ve been together for 6 years. I know that’s yours! You won’t trick me.”

4. Playing “Leave Me Then” on stage is one our favorite moments of our live show. We don’t know how or why but everybody goes crazy on that one, every single time. We have made some changes compared to the studio version, you don’t know wanna miss that at the release party on the 12th of December in London (at Gigi’s Hoxton).
