It’s no secret that Miami-born songstress Elena Rose is a force to be reckoned with.

Exuding spellbinding charm and charisma through every clip, song, and video she posts, underneath her fierce outer skin is a remarkably sensitive soul that is extraordinarily in tune with the core of human emotion. A natural poet, her writing prowess has lead her to pen a slew of hits for the top artists in the Latin market today—including CNCO and Becky G—and her alluring composition “Pa’ Ti” is now JLO and Maluma’s flaming hot new single.

Earlier this year, Elena Rose began her own journey as a solo artist, and her empowering modern anthems have already positioned her as one of the brightest shining stars in the industry. Following the success of a string of singles, beginning with her debut single “Sandunga,” which was released in May, she recently dropped her fourth hit, “COCO,” a dynamic yet inspiring track that encourages her fans to embrace their truest selves.

Co-written and produced alongside acclaimed writing/production duo Valley Girl, “COCO” is edgy and cool, bold and free of restraints and boundaries. “What I love about this song is that we did it without thinking of any rules when it comes to writing a song,” Elena revealed to Musical Notes Global. “I wasn’t thinking of structure…I was just creating out of whatever I was feeling in that moment and having fun. I liked the freedom that we had within that creative moment, and then this song came out.”

“COCO” takes its title from a Latino folktale, the legend of the COCO, a mythical monster that eats children when they misbehave instead of acting the way they’re expected to. The lyrics, however, juxtapose that concept against a positive message of freedom and inclusivity, urging listeners to triumphantly own who they are without fearing consequences. “I want people to feel free when they listen to this and not feel that they have to be a certain way to fit in or that they have to be someone else that they’re not,” she said. “I’m just encouraging everyone to have a moment and embrace who you are.”

The music video created for “COCO” successfully demonstrates Elena’s mesmerizing duality, celebrating the strength of her womanhood and the powerful, incomparable female spirit she brings at a time when the world needs it most. At moments, fans will see her classic Marilyn Monroe-like glamour shimmer radiantly, but it’s her more dominant energy that takes center stage in this one, solidifying the notion that women can be just as assertive and commanding as any man. “I wanted to represent both of my strongest features I see physically in me,” she explained. “I obviously honored my very soft, glamorous energy. Very female. But then also my stronger female energy, looking very masculine. I wanted to kind of mock, in a way, how you always see in the Latin industry videos of men singing and having like 5,500 women around them seducing them and being there. I wanted to flip that.”

Continuing her rise as a new female icon and role model, the video positions the soulful Venezuelan songstress among a sea of men, with their gaze reflecting the complex feelings she has experienced being in the spotlight as a singer, performer, and songwriter. At the same time, her brilliant inner light shines bright and tells the world that she won’t change for anyone, nor will she let anything stand in the way of her achieving her dreams. “It’s a way of representing that no matter what happens around me I’m just focused on my purpose,” she noted. “And that includes the men that told me that I can’t do it. COCO is a song for the bullies. Lyrically, it’s a way of saying that you don’t get to tell me who I am. I know who I am.”

Elena Rose is also currently celebrating a Latin Grammy nomination for her writing credits on Becky G and Gente De Zona’s “Muchacha,” as well as the success of “Tattoo Remix,” which she shares credits on as well. Performed by Puerto Rico’s Rauw Alejandro and Colombian pop crooner Camilo, the infectious tune recently hit #1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts and has garnered more than 300 million views on YouTube to date.

“That song has something very special and I’m just happy to see that everybody’s reacting so lovingly about it. I love to see my music reach people and make people feel something, and when it’s something happy and beautiful like ‘Tattoo,’ it’s very inspiring.”
