Australian-born singer and songwriter Aminah Hughes was a surprise discovery for us here at Musical Notes Global, but we are so glad she has found her way onto our radar.

Hughes recently released her debut album Blue Wooden Boat, a gorgeous collection of 11 songs that features luscious flavors of blues, alt country and folk. Recorded between the United States, Ireland, Australia and Germany, the album features a variety of guests including Tommy Emmanuel, Waterboys fiddler Steve Wickham, Nashville gospel singers The McCrary Sisters and GRAMMY award winner Tim Carter.

In this new collection, Hughes demonstrates powerful vulnerability and a spectacular ability to connect with her listeners. Speaking to an array of emotions, she tells intensely honest stories enhanced by stunning, soulful vocals and stirring melodies. From the old school country twang of opening track “The Welcome Song” to the stunning strings of the title track—channeling influence from the British isles—to the bluesy mood of “Tell Me It’s Over,” not only does Blue Wooden Boat have something for everyone but it will open and heal those parts of your heart that need it most.
